Electric Vehicle Charging
Following the Government statement in July 2017 that the UK will ban the sale of all petrol & diesel cars & vans by 2040, it is inevitable that the use of electric vehicle charging will rise over the coming years.
Electric vehicle sales in the UK increased by 39% in 2016 compared to 2015, with over 100,000 EV’s registered on the road & estimate that this number could rise to 500,000 by 2020. With legislation & environmental concerns, commercial vehicle manufacturers will also be forced to develop lower emission vehicles. Many of these vehicles will be powered by an electric cell or a combination of electric cell & petrol engine (Hybrid) which will require electric vehicle charging stations to be installed. There has been an increase in electric powered commercial vehicles launched in the UK, these range from small vans through to 26 tonne lorries with this increase we will see a rise in fleet EV charging in the UK.
Vehicle Charging Modes
Mode 3 Charging:
Mode 3 charging is the most common method of connection a vehicle to an electric charger in the UK, where the charger is permanently connected to the a.c. supply network.
Type 1 & 2 Charging Plugs:
There are two varieties of charging plug used in the UK. Type 2 is the most common which can handle power up to 22kW & Type 1 that handles power to 7.4kW. All chargers need to be installed in accordance with BS 7671:2008 A3:2015 (IEE Wiring Regulations Seventeenth Edition). It is the responsibility of the installer to claim.

The EO “Basic” is a simple, affordable, easy to install, wall mounted electric vehicle charger. Designed, manufactured & tested in the UK, it’s a perfect Mode 3 charging solution for the commercial workplace. Using a universal Type 2 socket, the chargers are suitable for charging all types of electric vehicles & are eligible for OLEV Home & Workplace charging grant. (Please ask for further details). Using a universal Type 2 socket, the chargers are suitable for charging all types of electric vehicles.
